Lebanon: Iman delegation meets with Patriarch Cardinal Bechara al-Rahi

Iman's President for the Middle East, Sheikh Mohammad Al Hajj Hassan, called recently on Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rai in Lebanon. This follows on from a meeting Sheikh Al Hajj Hassan had with Cardinal Bechara al-Rahi back in 2011.

In a recent interview, Cardinal Bechara al-Rahi stressed the need for peaceful co-existance in the Middle East saying “We Christians... have been living alongside Muslims for 1,400 years, and we have spread the human and moral values of multi-confessionality, plurality, and modernity in these lands. Now, however, we are seeing the total destruction of everything that Christians have built over the past 1,400 years... in Iraq, out of a million-and-a-half Christians, we have lost one million without hearing a word from the international community,” he added.

They both condemned the attacks on Christians in Syria, Iraq and Egypt and agreed that it is imperative that the International community comes together to fight extremism.

They also discussed ways in which the Foundation can help promote greater inter-faith dialogue between Muslims and Christians.

Patriarch Rai and Sheikh Hajj Hassan will continue to work together to keep Lebanon a free and pluralistic country.

They both condemned the attacks on Christians in Syria, Iraq and Egypt and agreed that it is imperative that the International community comes together to fight extremism, not only in the MENA region but all over the world.
