Sheikh Mohamed Hajj Hassan, Vice-Chairman and President of the Iman Foundation for the Middle East, visited the Mount Lebanon’s Syriac Orthodox Bishop, Mor Theophilos George Saliba.
They both condemned the Islamist extremist attacks against Christians and Muslims, in Syria, Egypt, Iraq and all other countries.
Mor Saliba said that Christians in Syria are being killed just for being Christians and that it did not matter whether they were neutral in the conflict; the fact that Churches in Syria were being bombed, torched, looted, pillaged and attacked on a daily basis was also highlighted.
Mor Saliba also raised the matter for the detention of nuns from the Historic Christian town of Maaloula by Islamist rebels.
He also said that over a million Christians had to flee Iraq, as they were targetted by Islamists and that extremists were committed to wiping out all Christians, minorities and all who do not share their perverted ideology. He said that extremism was the force behind the darkness in the whole MENA region and concluded by saying that they have no respect or regard for humanity and our universal values of peace and freedom.
Sheikh Mohamed Hajj Hassan agreed and stated that Islamists do not share our universal values and are murdering civilians from all religions, sects and ethnic groups all over the world. He spoke about the work of the Iman Foundation in challenging extremism and sectarianism and the need for more inter/intra-faith dialogue - as well as the role of the international community in combatting Islamism.
