A Christmas reception sponsored by the Iman Foundation was held by the Altalaqi charity, for all faiths in Beirut, under the auspices of his Excellency the Minister for Social Affairs, Dr Salim Sayegh. The Minister was represented at the function by Ms Zia Saleh. It was a very successful event attended by representatives of social and civil society organisations, the Phalange Party, the Free Patriotic Movement, the Liberal Party and the National Coalition. Messages of support and congratulations were received from the Prime Minister Saad Hariri, Patriarch Sfeir, Mufti Kabbani, MP Nicola Fattoush, Spain's Ambassador to Lebanon and the Director General of Lebanon's Internal Security Forces.

Christmas presents were distributed to 180 children who attended the event. The host Sheikh Mohammad Al Hajj Hassan, the Director of Iman for the Middle East, made a passionate and well received speech on the need for dialogue and mutual acceptance between all faiths.

Commenting on the event, Chairman of the Iman Foundation, Ribal Al-Assad, said:

"It was a pleasure for Iman to do the event. I am delighted that representatives of all faiths and political parties attended. I would like to thank everyone who sent messages of support and congratulations. It is great for people from different faiths to come together at religious festivals. Our children are the future and they should always be a central to such celebrations. Dialogue and mutual acceptance between all faiths and cultures is key to successful co-existence in Lebanon and around the world."
