Iman Delegation meets with Grand Mufti of Lebanon

Sheikh Mohamed Hajj Hassan, the Vice-Chairman and President of the Iman Foundation for the Middle East, met with His Eminence, the Grand Mufti of Lebanon, Sheikh Muhammad Rashid Qabanni.

Sheikh Mohamed Hajj Hassan observed that the Region is going through sensitive and dangerous times, particularly after the latest threats to Lebanon from a series of extremist Islamist groups. Moderation is the greatest way to counter extremism and His Eminence represents the moderate Islamic Religious Authority in Lebanon.

The Grand Mufti Qabbani confirmed that he will continue to be a strong voice for, and protector of, moderation across Lebanon and the Region, and he rejects every threat against any Lebanese, irrespective of their creed.

He explained : "The statements issued by some extremist Islamic Authorities calling for revenge against the Shias are unacceptable. They do not represent Sunni public opinion because moderate Sunnis are also a target. These groups want to destroy our nation."

He continued by clarifying that extremist Islamists do not represent Islam or the message brought by the Prophet Muhammad. The beautiful and peaceful image of Islam is being jeopardised by this perverted ideology.
