Iman Chairman wishes Russian Orthodox Christians a Happy Easter

Orthodox Christians took part in all night celebrations for Easter today, as the lent fasting came to a close worshippers gathered in churches and cathedrals to take part in traditional festivities like decorating eggs and cakes.

The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, joined in the celebration at the main cathedral in Moscow.

Easter Sunday, the holiest day on the orthodox calendar and is celebrated right across the region.

Sending his wishes, Ribal Al-Assad said:

"May I wish all those celebrating the Russian Orthodox Easter peace at this time, may we also spare a thought for those who do not enjoy the same religions freedoms that we all too often take for granted. I wish the everyone celebrating the Russian Orthodox Easter the very best for the coming year."
