European Union condemns terrorist attack in Chechen Grozny
TASS
The European Union condemns the Sunday terrorist attack in the Chechen capital Grozny, its press release said on Monday.
It said an attack against civilians could not be justified and expressed condolences to the families of the killed policemen as well as the Russian government and the Russian people.
The explosion went off at about 5 pm, Moscow time, on Sunday. Police officers found a home-made explosive device on a man walking through a metal detector at a scene of mass festivities in central Grozny. The terrorist blew himself up as the police tried to arrest him. Five policemen were killed and 12 were injured in the explosion.
An investigation is underway. The terrorist has been preliminarily identified as a resident of Grozny’s Staropromyslovsky district, who had been missing since he had left home two months ago. The man was killed in the blast.
Responding to the new, IMAN Chairman, Ribal Al-Assad said:
"I am appalled to learn of this recent attack in Grozny, we must remember that extremism exits the world over and poses a truly global threat.
It is high time for the international community to put their differences aside and come together to combat extremism.
I wholeheartedly condemn this cowardly and barbaric act.
My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families at this time."
