Iman Chairman, Ribal Al-Assad, has expressed his complete disgust at the ongoing treatment of Coptic Christians in Egypt.

Several reports have emerged of Copts being kidnapped, murdered and mutilated by radical extremists in a spate of attacks.

Since the Muslim Brotherhood lost the Presidency -after tens of millions of Egyptians took the streets against their authoritarian rule- attacks by the leaders and allies of the Muslim Brotherhood have increased dramatically.

Commenting on the situation Chairman of the Iman Foundation Ribal Al-Assad said:

“The news coming out of Egypt is deeply troubling; as Egyptian citizens the Coptic Christian community should be protected by their government and should not have to face persecution in any form.

In a true and genuine democracy all citizens are equal under the law regardless of their religion, ethnicity, sect or sex.

It is apparent that a minority of religious extremists in Egypt are trying to eliminate all those who do not share their narrow and perverted ideology – this must not be allowed to happen and the international community must do more to prevent this kind of violence from occurring.

Not only must the perpetrators be brought to justice, but so too should the religious leaders who incite violence and murder, we need to hold these people to account.

Muslims, Christians, Jews and all other religions should live together in peace and harmony and we must all stand together in the face of extremism.”
