Lunes, 5 Diciembre 2011
The People's Arab League Information Office issued the following press release:
"The Board of Trustees of the League of the Arab Peoples held a conference in the league headquarters in Cairo. It was attended by representatives of various political parties, in addition to political, party, media, cultural, and economic authorities from Egypt, the Sudan, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Jordan, Mauritania, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. Iman Foundation representative Sheikh Mohammad Al-Hajj Hassan made a speech in which he hailed the Arab revolution and revolutionaries. He expressed his condolences and blessings to the martyrs of Arab Spring revolutions that broke out in order to achieve social justice, freedom, democracy, and to preserve such values and man’s mission away from extremism, confessionalism, and sectarianism. It is to this end that Iman Foundation which I am honored to represent today was established by Mr. Ribal Al-Assad whose greetings I extend to you today. Mr. Assad is a Syrian citizen who speaks out against injustice and defends the rights of the Syrian people awaiting change.
"Arab peoples need a communicative framework that follows up their concerns and addresses their issues, in addition to protecting them from all attempts at thwarting their platform for change and reform. They have demonstrated that no matter how strong the rulers are, they cannot face the storm of popular anger.
"The desired change in the region necessitates that we know how to pursue and implement it. By depending on foreign forces, using arms, departing from peaceful revolution, and drifting from the natural course of the revolution to personal gains, we will be entrapped in the establishment of new repressive dictatorships.
"The revolution in any country requires popular and national solidarity as well as an Arab rally. Accordingly, we salute all the Arab peoples and call on them to maintain the peaceful character of the revolution and to keep taking independent decisions. We also call on them to avert getting caught in the trap of incitement along sectarian, ethnic, or national lines so that we do not let the wicked fulfill their aims and we do not pave the way for the eruption of civil or sectarian wars.
"Your honored league can play a great role in following up the Arab Revolution, safeguarding its gains, and unifying Arab society in order to preserve our identity, culture, and values. We pray God so that we will be successful in achieving our desired objectives and we wish everybody all the best.
"It should be noted that Mr. Ala Sultan, the supervisor of the league establishment licensed by an Egyptian court, announced the official decision to appoint Iman Foundation, chaired by Mr. Ribal Al-Assad, as the secretary general of the league for one year, effective from the day the decision is taken. Sheikh Mohammad Hajj Hasan, Iman Vice-Chairman and Middle East President, received the relevant document."
Commenting on the appointment Iman Chairman, Ribal Al-Assad, said:
"I am delighted and honoured that the Iman Foundation has been appointed as the President and Secretary-General of the People's Arab League. I will serve to the best of my ability to help develop political and religious pluralism, understanding, reconciliation and peace in the region."
