Ambassador Zhen Jianguo
The conversation was wide-ranging. There was complete agreement that despite their many differences, the East and West also share many common goals and dreams. First amongst these is the importance of inter-cultural dialogue and understanding. The sharing of and respect for each others' values has a huge impact on relationships at every level. Huge strides continue to be made through art, sport, music and literature. Mutual business interests have also created strong bonds.
These are all important in their own right, but even more so, is the International Community's joint fight against extremism. There is no doubt that the evils of religious intolerance and sectarian tension are pervasive across the world and they must be challenged.
Ribal Al Assad commented: "It was a pleasure to enjoy the start of the Chinese Year of the Horse with such distinguished, like-minded and positive people. From Beijing to London we share the same desire for a peaceful and accepting environment. It will be exciting to investigate how best to mutually develop the most effective routes to achieving them."
