Lebanon: IMAN delegation: Belgian MP calls on former minister Nayla Moawad

Belgian Liberal party MP Denis Ducarme yesterday met with former MP and Minister Mrs Nayla Moawad in Beirut, as part of an IMAN delegation aimed at promoting international dialogue and strengthening international understanding. Mrs Moawad is the widow of former President René Moawad, who was assassinated in 1989. Mr Ducarme is vice-chairman of Belgium's Parliamentary Defence Committee. He discussed the political situation in Lebanon and the book that he is writing titled, "Islam against Islamism", with Mrs Moawad.

Mr Ducarme said he was visiting Lebanon to see first hand the unique co-existence of people and a political system based on religious pluralism.

The delegation also included Sheikh Mohammad Al Hajj Hassan and Retired Lieutenant Colonel Tamer Awada.
