IMAN Vice-Chairman, Sheikh Mohammed al-Hajj Hassan, recently visited the Grand Mufti of Lebanon, Sheikh Abdel-Latif Derian in Dar Al-Fatwa, to discuss the plight of extremism in the region.

Their discussion centred around the importance of uniting Muslims against extremism, violence and murder - all of which have no place in Islam. 'Fitnah' is the greatest sin in Islam and it is said that the killing of one person is tantamount to the killing of all humankind. They also discussed the ongoing importance of inter-faith and intra-faith dialogue and the need to promote moderate voices within Islam.

Commenting on the meeting, Sheikh Al Hajj Hassan said the following:

"The Dar Al-Fatwa will remain a platform of unity and convergence among all national and ethnic components and we are delighted that the Grand Mufti will continue to work to prevent any form of sectarian strife between Sunni and Shia Muslims as well as between Muslims and Christians. We must all reject the perverted ideology of Islamic extremism which has tarnished the image of Islam, practicing the ugliest forms of terrorism and crime"
