Ribal Al-Assad, Chairman of the IMAN Foundation and Steven Jones, Vice Chairman of IMAN, met with the Chief Rabbi of Chernivtsi, Menahem Mendel Glisnshtain, and visited the Jewish Cultural Centre in Chernivtsi during a recent visit to the Ukraine.

The city of Chernivtsi, the center of the Bukovina region, is one of the big cities of the Western Ukraine with rich Jewish cultural heritage and a history of around 600 years. The majority of the local Jews lived near the synagogue and trade squares around which the old Jewish quarter grew.

In 2003, Rabbi Menahem Mendel Glisnshtain came to Chernivtsi and from then on, Jewish life in Chernivtsi has gone from strength to strength. The regional Chabad Jewish cultural center plays an active role in the revival operating a number of programs including charitable dinners, meals-on-wheels, the children's aid program and aid to the sick.
